The city of Bharatpur in the north western Indian state of Rajasthan has been considered a stronghold of the Jat community which have been the rulers of the Mewat region and their history dates back to the 11th Century. The ‘Keoladeo National Park’ in Bharatpur has been accorded with ‘World Heritage Site’ status by the UNESCO. The national park which was an erstwhile duck hunting reserve of the ruling Maharajas is home to some of the rare birds of the planet which frequent the park especially during the winter months. More than 350 different species of birds which include the rare Siberian Crane can be found during the winters apart from birds from neighboring countries like China, Afghanistan, and Siberia etc.
