The city of Amritsar is located on the north western frontier of the country in the princely state of Punjab. Being on the western corner of the country; Amritsar is actually at a stone throw away distance from the neighboring country of Pakistan. The city of Amritsar got its name from an amalgamation of two words namely “amrit & sagar” which mean ‘the ocean of nectar of immortality’. Amritsar was at the centre of political activity during the partition of India and Pakistan in the year 1947. The people at the helm of affairs in Pakistan wanted Amritsar to be a part of Pakistan because of its proximity to Lahore and because of the partition the state of Punjab was divided into two parts making Amritsar the border city of India and Pakistan.
