The literal meaning of the cities name is a combination of Arabic word ‘Jabal’ which means mountain and ‘Pur’ meaning city, meaning mountain city. Famous freedom fighter and leader Subhash Chandra Bose was appointed the Congress Leader during the session held in the year 1939 in which he presided. ‘Jhanda Satyagraha’ against the British under the guidance and leadership of Lokmanya Tilak was organized with considerable success.
