Located on the southern tip of the country; the state of Kerala; is also referred to as ‘God’s Own Country’ because of its breath taking back waters, lush green vegetation, waving palms trees and beautiful and exotic beaches. The state of Kerala which is surrounded by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on the northern, southern and eastern side and the Arabian Sea on the western side is the most literate state of the country with over 91% literacy rate. The state of Kerala is also counted amongst the least corrupt states of the country; something which is a rarity in this part of the world. The cities of Thiruvananthapuram which is the capital city of Kerala along with Cochin, Kollam, Kozhikode, Thrissur etc. are amongst the busiest and important cities in Kerala.

The state of Kerala is quite well known for its cultural diversity with people of all religion living in the state. Of the residents living in the state; Hinduism is the most practiced religion, followed closely by Muslims and Christians. Apart from this; Kerala has been the only state of the country which had a sizeable population of people belonging to the Jewish community. The neighboring areas of city Kochi in Kerala is home to one of the oldest Synagogues; Jewish place of worship in the entire country as well as the entire Commonwealth region. In the last couple of decades there has been a sizeable decline in the Jewish population of the state as most of them have migrated to Israel.

It was in the state of Kerala more particularly in the city of Calicut which is know known as Kozhikode; that famous sailor Vasco de Gama had landed and set foot on Indian soil. Tourism, Banking & Finance, Public Administration and transportation apart from fishing and agriculture are the major economic drivers for the state of Kerala. Around 50% of population of people in Kerala is till date involved and totally dependent on agriculture and farming to earn their day to day living. Kerala is also an important Tea farming and production in the country with a place like Munnar being at the core action of tea farming and production.

Kerala is counted as amongst the most popular tourist destinations in the country and has also been named as one of the ‘Ten paradises of the world’. The state which was relatively unknown in the tourism circles till sometime back is now developed into a niche holiday destination for the travelers. Kerala boasts of hill stations, beaches, wild life sanctuaries, national parks, back waters and various other historical and heritage sites. Also there are various festivals and fairs like ‘the boat race’ etc. which attract a lot of tourist from all across the globe.
