Ranchi is the capital city of Indian state of Jharkhand. The state of Jharkhand is full of natural resources and provides for almost 40% of total natural resources that the country produces. For its share; Ranchi contributes close to 50% of natural resources that the state produces. In the recent past the city had been the centre of tribal movement for their demand of a separate state which resulted in the formation of Jharkhand state which was carved out of Bihar. The city got its name Ranchi; based on a sacred and seasonal bird known as ‘Rinchi’ which used to frequent one of the temple complexes within the city. The city was at the centre of activity during the freedom struggle especially during the mutiny of 1857. Several Indians who were troops in the British army raised their head with discontentment against the British commanders and started fighting them although they had to succumb to the power and might of the British eventually.
Modern day Ranchi city is an important centre of commercial and business activities. The region is also known as the ‘vegetable bowl’ of the country with fresh green vegetables which are produced in and around Ranchi being supplied and transported to various parts of the country. In addition to this; post the independence from the British rule, Ranchi has become an important industrial and manufacturing town with major companies like the Shipping Corporation of India, Heavy Engineering Corporation etc. having setup their base units here. Also the Steel Authority of India has set up their steel research unit in Ranchi which employs close to 400 scientists.
There are various places in Ranchi which are of tourist’s interest and thousands of travelers visit Ranchi because of these landmarks or the festivals or fairs which are organized during different times of the year. Places like the Surya Temple, Dewri temple, Buddha Vihar, Durga Badi and Ramma Krishna Mission Ashram are some of the places of tourists interest within the city. along with these; there are several other locations like Nakshatra Van, Deer Park, Rock Garden and fun Castle etc. which are considered a must visit while on a trip to Ranchi. Being the capital city of the state and an important town in line with other important facets; it is well connected to other parts of the region through an effective and efficient, road, air and train. One can take a flight to get in or out of the mall and the city operates flight service to other important destinations and cities of the country.
